Aussie Snack Time!

Fairy Bread

Timmy couldn’t believe his eyes when he first saw Fairy Bread — it looked like a rainbow had landed right on the table! In Australia, children often enjoy this magical treat at birthday parties and celebrations. It’s made by spreading soft butter over slices of white bread and sprinkling bright, colorful “hundreds and thousands” (that’s what Aussies call rainbow sprinkles!) on top. The sprinkles stick to the butter, creating a cheerful, sparkly snack that’s as fun to make as it is to eat. Timmy giggled as he shook the sprinkles onto his own slice — it was like making edible confetti!

Lamingtons

When Timmy stopped by a cozy bakery in Sydney, the sweet smell of chocolate and coconut filled the air. On the counter sat neat little squares called Lamingtons, one of Australia’s most beloved desserts. Each Lamington begins as a soft, fluffy sponge cake dipped in smooth chocolate icing and then rolled through a blanket of shredded coconut. Some even hide a surprise layer of jam or cream inside! Timmy took one bite and felt the chocolate melt while the coconut added a gentle crunch. It reminded him of sunshine and picnics by the sea — simple, sweet, and perfectly Australian.
